ILLUSTRATIVE RECONCILIATION — DEMO STORE, NOT A CLIENT
DTC brands that sell on their own storefront.
Doing $50k to $1M a year on Shopify, often with Amazon or wholesale alongside. You want books you can run the brand on.
One deposit, five kinds of money.
A Shopify payout carries sales, sales tax and gift cards, minus fees and refunds. Booked as one line, it hides your real margin.
The deposit isn't your revenue
Tax you collected and gift cards you sold land in the same payout as sales. We split them out, so revenue means revenue.
Read the answer →Margin needs a true unit cost
Freight, duty and packaging belong in the cost of each product, or every order looks more profitable than it is. We build them into unit cost.
Read the answer →COGS drifts from what shipped
Bundles, samples and replacements move stock without a matching sale. We track them, so gross margin stays in view.
Read the answer →A production run hits one month
Booked as an expense, one production run wipes out a month's profit and inflates the next. We hold it as inventory until it sells.
Read the answer →Small charges pile up unread
App fees, subscriptions and chargebacks add up unread. We code every one each month, so you see what your stack really costs.

Shopify accounting questions
Do you work with Shopify payouts and apps?
Yes. Every Shopify Payments payout is matched to its orders, fees and refunds, and payments through other gateways are matched the same way. Your Shopify bill for apps and subscription is coded to the right expense each month.
How much does Shopify accounting cost?
Starter is $249/month for a store with up to 300 orders a month on one or two channels. Add channels or volume and Growth ($449) or Scale ($799) applies. Every price is on our pricing page, and yours is confirmed in writing after your free books review.
What happens to the sales tax I collect on Shopify?
Each month, sales tax collected through your store is held in your books as a liability, not counted as revenue, so your sales figure is the real one. If you want help watching where you may owe, sales tax tracking and nexus monitoring is an add-on at $99/month.
I sell on Shopify and Amazon. Can you keep both in one set of books?
Yes. Each channel is reconciled on its own, then reported together on one profit and loss by channel, so you see where the margin comes from.
I'm months behind. Can I still start?
Yes. Catch-up comes first: each missing month, oldest first, has its Shopify payouts matched to orders, fees and refunds, at $149 per month behind. Your monthly plan then picks up from the last month we brought current. The review counts the months and the quote gives the total in writing.
