How it's worked out

The Etsy profit formula.

Etsy fees = listing fee + transaction fee % × (price + shipping) + processing % × (price + shipping + sales tax) + processing fixed fee + Offsite Ads % × (price + shipping), at most 100.00

Profit per sale = price + shipping charged − item cost − your shipping cost − Etsy fees − other costs

Margin = profit per sale ÷ (price + shipping charged)

For a US seller, Etsy’s fee policy charges the transaction fee and the Offsite Ads fee on the price plus shipping and gift wrap, not on sales tax; payment processing is charged on the total sale including tax and shipping. Sales tax is not your revenue, so it is left out of profit and margin. Each fee is rounded to the cent.

The break-even price is the lowest selling price, to the cent, at which this item does not lose money, with everything else held the same.

The example is the demo store's camp stove: a selling price of 45.00 and a landed cost of 24.00. Etsy’s standard fees come to 4.73 (listing 0.20, transaction 2.93, processing 1.60), leaving 16.27, a 36.2% margin. If you only know the supplier price, work out the landed cost first with the landed cost calculator. For other marketplaces, use the marketplace profit calculator.
